The Assistant Controller will be responsible for all technical accounting matters, revenue, financial reporting, SOX compliance and IPO readiness. This position will be a highly visible role within the organization.


This position is located in Waltham, MA.



  • Research, provide, and document all conclusions related to technical accounting guidance for complex transactions, including but not limited to ASC 606 (particularly software), capitalization of software development costs, business combinations, lease accounting, foreign currency transactions, stock-based compensation, and others. 
  • Be the go-to contact in the organization to conclude on and articulate technical accounting matters and explain these matters to both accountants and non-accountants (i.e., sales, R&D, and executives).
  • Responsible for all technical conclusions related to software revenue including reviewing contracts sales with sales op, legal and the revenue accounting team to provide guidance on the appropriate revenue treatment.
  • Responsible for preparation of timely and accurate monthly consolidation in accordance with GAAP.
  • Responsible for credit agreement compliance including financials, covenants, etc.
  • Responsible for time and accurate reporting for Adjusted EBITDA including adjustments
  • Design, implement and maintain the external financial reporting process for Cytel including the preparation of all financial statements and analysis, disclosures, and schedules associated with financial statements.
  • Provide coaching and guiding to all team members on the accounting team to help explain policies and appropriate accounting conclusions.
  • Assist in implementing SOX compliance by adhering to internal control requirements and updating documentation of processes and key controls as well as testing of key controls in preparation for potential SOX compliance.
  • Review and improve control environment with collaboration of worldwide accounting team.
  • Assist in implementing scalable solutions including systems and processes.
  • Manage audit process while maintaining key contact relationship with external auditors.
  • Lead the coordination of external valuations on significant acquisitions and acts as a liaison between external valuation experts and the external audit team.
  • As needed, play an active role in the due diligence process in acquisitions including reviewing the financial and tax data of acquiree, concluding on the accounting treatment, and building and executing on implementation plan.
  • Help to coordinate and review analysis, calculations, and reporting for income taxes under ASC 740 for U.S. and international operations.
  • Help to coordinate, review, and implement, tax planning strategies including transfer pricing, tax loss carryforwards, bonus depreciation, R&D credits, and other tax minimization strategies.
  • Assist in special projects.



  • Bachelor degree in Accounting or Accounting relatd field
  • CPA
  • 10+ years experience in a finance or accounting role with some or all of that time serving in a technical accounting capacity
  • Public Accounting experience ideally with technology clients
  • Strong knowledge of ASC 606, ideally in software.
  • Additional industry experience a plus
  • SEC reporting experience
  • Strong knowledge of Business Combination purchase accounting, M&A valuation and integration
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of ASC 842
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of SOX compliance and implementation
  • Strong knowledge of corporate income tax and indirect taxes.
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting tools.
  • Strong excel skills.
