The incumbent in this role is responsible for substantially contributing to the growth of RWA2 business unit through (i) assigned business operations responsibilities, (ii) intellectual advancement of the field of real world evidence, and (iii) selling and execution of projects in the area of their expertise.

Specifically, the US Real World Evidence Lead, working closely with the Department Lead and Business Unit Lead, will:  

  • Develop and implement a growth strategy for US RWE consistent with Cytel’s advanced analytics positioning
  • Increase Cytel’s visibility in the marketplace around US capabilites with emphasis on external thought leadership, data source knowledge, and methodological innovation
  • Identify strategic and creative methods for developing relationships with clients
  • Represent business unit in cross-business initiatives
  • Attend, participate in, and contribute to appropriate industry events, consortia, publications, and other venues
  • Build the necessary resources to support project execution.  Recruit and develop top-tier mid- and junior-level staff.

 

In addition, the incumbent will also bear responsibility for the selling and execution of projects in the area of their expertise.  It is envisaged that successful candidate will initially leverage capabilities in Canada and Europe, and newly developed US data partnerships.  It is expected that during the first year, because of the initial stage of growth, the Managing Director will:

  • Serve as Project Leader, with final responsibilities for project budget, deliverables and timelines
  • Provide guidance/consultation on scientific and logistical considerations of project design and conduct within his/her project portfolio and to colleagues throughout Cytel
  • Oversee and/or develop project deliverables (e.g., protocols, analysis plans, reports) and draft abstracts and manuscripts as lead or co-author
  • Contribute to the growth of Cytel through business development activities, including proposal development, participation in the sales cycle, conference attendance, and presentations 
  • Interact directly with sponsors

Occasional travel for client and internal meetings is expected (up to 25%)

 

 Qualifications and Experience

  • PhD in epidemiology +10 or more years with strong record of publication required. Specialization in pharmacoepidemiology and clinical training preferred.
  • Previous experience in consultancy environment highly desirable
  • Good understanding of advanced methods in pharmacoepidemiology, causal inference, and related fields
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and document information effectively in written English, including the ability to produce reports, documents, emails and other written pieces which are well-organized, free from errors, and are appropriately adjusted to the characteristics and needs of the audience.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, prioritization and decision-making skills necessary to evaluate, plan and accomplish multiple work goals in a timely fashion.
  • Able to quickly learn and apply new information, skills and procedures.
  • Proactive and positive approach to tasks and projects, as well as resilience when encountering process, project, budget or client changes that are inherent in the consulting environment.
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to quickly develop and sustain positive rapport with internal and external contacts in person, over the phone and by email.
  • Experience presenting ideas to individuals and groups in a formal presentation setting
  • Able to analyze complex issues and evidence, identify cause-effect relationships, and generate effective solutions
  • Delivers a positive internal/external client experience; listens and understand the client's needs, and recommends solutions that reflect good public-health judgment and scientific rigor 
  • Demonstrates sound professional judgment in analyzing, responding to, and resolving enquiries, issues and escalations.
